Capsule of Work Experience

Sharon LeeMaster CFRE has over 40 years of professional experience working with nonprofit institutions in the fields of the arts and culture, education, healthcare and social services.

In November 2000, she was honored for a lifetime of service by being named Outstanding Development Professional by the San Diego Chapter, Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), formerly called the National Society of Fund Raising Executives (NSFRE).

The San Diego Performing Arts League nominated Sharon for this honor, citing the scope of her professional and volunteer activities. "She brings people together and helps them develop their talents to create programs that better the community. She truly walks that 'extra' mile to make sure that goals are reached," wrote Alan Ziter, then SDPAL Executive Director.

Sharon's experience includes corporate solicitation programs, annual giving, direct mail, capital campaigns, feasibility studies, endowment building, strategic planning, prospect research, list enhancement, major gift cultivation and strategies, inauguration of planned giving and donor recognition programs.

Before entering the consulting field in 1986, she spent 11 years on staff as Public Relations Director, Director of Development and Executive Director for a number of major arts and culture organizations including the San Diego Opera, Combined Arts & Education (COMBO), La Jolla Chamber Music Society and the San Diego Symphony.

As a consultant, Sharon has worked on a number of capital campaigns and feasibility studies including the San Diego Museum of Natural History, the San Diego Historical Society's Museum of San Diego History; the Osteopathic Center for Children, Children's Museum, Casa de Amparo, Balboa Theatre, and St Rose Dominican Hospitals. Sharon was the lead consultant on a contract with the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture to assist its funded organizations increase contributed income. She worked as a consultant on the Strategic Plan for the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center of The Salvation Army and as lead consultant on a direct mail assessment for The Salvation Army, USA Western Territory.

Sharon was first accredited as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) in 1987 by AFP and has been re-certified through December 1, 2017.

She has completed 11 years of service on both the national boards of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), which serves more than 30,000 fundraising professionals internationally.
